Who we are

RiverRescues is a non profit organization run by a small team of trained dedicated volunteers that rescues predominantly reptiles but also support other animals and pet owners in need of a helping hand.

Since 2019 they have been rescuing and rehoming animals from all sorts of difficult situations, whether it be pets that can no longer be cared for, or wildlife in need of help, or even just support for your everyday animal tasks.

with many years of experience AJ River and his team of volunteers and fosters covering Edinburgh and around Scotland’s central belt have put in the time to work around the clock to help animals with issues such as previous neglect or abuse, animals with behaviour issues, supporting sick pets and much more.

they’ve seen it all, they have had pets with missing feet and tails.

Animals that are very aggressive and even animal with severe skin disorders and so much more.

None the less if they’re able to help they will.

they’ve rescued hundreds of animals in just over the past year alone and some that have had to stay for month to prepare them for their forever home.

they run fully on the help of donations of money or old animal products that they can then sell to support more rescues in need.

Any and all money made from donations, adoption fees or services we provide goes strait to helping another rescue in need.

ABOUT AJ:

AJ started RiverRescues after a difficult child hood of never fitting in and finding his true comfort in the love of animals. He was badly bullied in many schools, struggled feeling accepted in social situations and dealt with many mental health issues due to this.

when 15 he had the opportunity of volunteering in a zoo working along side incredible zookeepers and ever more incredible animals. Despite having experience many animals prior to this, AJ discovered his dream to one day open his own Rescue Reptile zoo.

After many years struggling with mental health, addiction and homelessness, he finally found himself in a position to make this dream be a possibility, he worked hard to get a home, get clean and sober and better himself, thankfully the animals were his biggest motivation to do it all.

With the help of fellow animal lovers, rescuers and yourselves, RiverRescues truly could one day be a Rescue zoo for many animals to be saved, loved and cared for how they should be.
